Welcome

Thanks for stopping by. Come on in. I don’t have any drinks to offer, but a few posts are lying about. Dust one off and head to a reading corner. We have plenty of space.

Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Nicholas B. Spurrier — a husband, father, and part-time meme lord.

As far as what I do around here…

I like to explore our stories as a people. I’ll meander down a mental trail and ponder on the things I find along the way. There are times I get lost on those travels, but one thing remains certain…

“What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun.”

We are all products of the previous generations. The details around the things we say and do may change, but our motives remain the same. We can see this unfold in history time and time again.

History is made up of story tellers. Some have been kind enough to write down their chapter in this story that spans the generations. These stories serve to highlight certain traits; traits that should be honored and exemplified or warnings of ones we should avoid. These stories carry bits of wisdom that should be passed down and harbor traditions which should be kept. These stories contain patterns for us to follow. They are well worn trails that have been walked by many.

Transcendental by Nature

Like those before me, I am fascinated with the idea that there is one Truth. Try as we might, every story we tell (every story that’s worth telling) ultimately points back to this Truth. We can’t help but to bring it back to this one point, this one trail. In doing so, the Truth elevates the mundane. The Truth makes the Natural transcend the physical realm into something higher. The Truth transforms the Natural into something that cannot be seen with the eye, but instead, has to be experienced with the heart.

The previous generations knew this.

If you look closely, you can observe this Truth in the natural world around you.

We share a natural bent to make a story, art, or an experience transcendent — to make more of something and give it meaning.

These posts are attempts to illuminate that idea…to find the trails that previous generations have walked, trails that are worn from use, trails that lead to destinations well worth the travel.

In walking those same trails, I hope to see the roots and rocks which cause us to stumble. I strive to keep the trails clear from fallen limbs and overgrowth which have hidden the way. I wait, with much anticipation, to take my children on those same trails one day, to share the journey we have taken thus far.

Along my travels, I ponder questions like:

So take off your jacket and stay a while. Let me know if you find something you like. If you don’t know where to start, try exploring The Forest in The Trees.
